After exciting and close matches, Neff Rink pulled out a victory against the Clark Rink and Skinner Rink squeaked ahead of the Hicks Rink. December 5th is our next time we curl. It is at 4:45pm again on the South Rink.  We don't play for nothing - we play for fancy trophies! The semi-final match-ups will be: Sheet 2: Meyer vs Skinner Sheet 3: Glauser vs Neff Sheet 1 will host the Skin’s match between Hicks & Clark Rink. If anyone is in need of subs, please let me know soon. Also, if anyone has any questions, concerns, suggestions we are always open to hearing them. The Iceoplex in Escondido was nice enough to let us paint curling lines onto their second rink for this season – with two rinks it opens up a lot of options for scheduling. This has allowed us to schedule the majority of the fall season league games with start times of 4:45PM on Saturdays – early enough to curl and then head out for some post-game food and libations : ) This last week was our first on the new sheet. The ice was fast and smooth, although a little crooked. This made for some tricky calls to deal with the negative ice, but with a smooth consistent surface we were able to get in plenty of good shots for some high scoring games (negative ice is tricky, but it is way better than frosty ice or dead spots). We do have an extra sheet of ice this season – if you want to come out and learn how to curl, send us an e-mail and join us – we’ll set up an impromptu lesson for you on the open sheet.
We have our next learn to curl clinic scheduled – and our fall league! Come out to the clinic on 9/12 to learn the basics of curling or brush up on your skills! All you will need is clean, soft-soled shoes, comfortable semi-warm and flexible clothing, and a good attitude : ) Our recreational fall league, which will be open to all skill levels, will start the following week on 9/19. Playing a few nights a month, the league is great way to enjoy the game of curling and brush up on your knowledge of the sport so you can impress all your friends when the Olympics roll around in February…

I missed the July summer curling night, but word on the street is that a good time was had by all : ) Our final summer curling night is coming up on August 8th, again at 7 PM at the Iceoplex in Escondido. We’ll put together pickup games for those who know how to curl, and for people who just want to learn, we’ll have a crash course on how to play. Everyone is welcome, clean shoes are needed, we supply the fancy curling equipment, and all for a modest $15 (cash or California state issued IOU only, please…). Great time to come out and chuck some stones and cool off from the summer heat (where else can you go to the beach and then straight to curling… : ). Everyone is welcome including beginners – we’ll set up some instruction for anyone who needs it. I think we’re charging $15 for summer sessions – what a bargain! Idaho – its practically next door in curling terms…
 5th Annual Rocktoberspiel in McCall, Idaho Same deal as last time – everyone is welcome, we’ll put together pick-up games for people who have curled before. Brand new players – we will run a clinic – all you need is soft soled shoes, flexible clothing, and a good attitude : ) Cost will be $15, cash-only please. Couple pick-up curling nights coming up – 6/6 and 6/20 – both Saturday nights starting at 7PM. Everyone is welcome to attend – we will organize some games for experienced players and train new players to the game. All you need is comfortable clothes and clean, soft-soled shoes. And $20. Good Curling!  If you don't think curling is exercise, try sweeping a couple rocks down the length of the ice... Back by popular demand – another chance to learn the fine sport of curling! Or if you already know how to play, a chance to get some practice in (and maybe a pick-up game). We will be holding a clinic this Saturday, 5/16 starting at 7PM at the Iceoplex in Escondido. Everyone is welcome! – all you need is comfortable, semi-athletic clothing, clean soft-soled shoes, a smile, and $20 : ) Hope to see you there! |
