Next Learn to Curl Clinic Schedule for January 30th!

Lot of rocks in the house - always a good sign.

We finally have the date set for our next learn to curl clinic.  Come out on Saturday, January 30th at 9PM  - this may be your last chance to learn the sport before the Olympics begin! Think how much fun it will be watching the Olympics with your friends and explaining to them the finer points of the double-raise-take-out… Okay, we probably won’t cover that in the intro lesson, but we will have fun!

All you will need is comfortable, semi-warm clothes and clean, close-toed shoes (softer soles provide more grip).  The club will provide brooms, sliders, rocks, instruction and everything else you need to learn the sport.

Cost for the 2-hour clinic is $20 per person.

Playoffs – week 2 results

Val_ShootingLast week the playoffs reached the semi-finals, where Neff took down the Glauser rink, and the Skinner rink held off team Meyer.  The final is set for tonight with Neff and Skinner looking to battle for San Diego curling supremacy! After finishing 5th and 6th respectively in the regular season round robin, these teams have demonstrated the great level of parity in the league.  Or the importance of peaking at the right time.  Or that the season is too short.

In the skins match, the Clark rink crushed the Hicks rink 4 to 1.  Ouch.  Well played, Clark rink!

First Games on the New Sheet

Lot of rocks in the house - always a good sign.

Lot of rocks in the house - always a good sign.

The Iceoplex in Escondido was nice enough to let us paint curling lines onto their second rink for this season – with two rinks it opens up a lot of options for scheduling.  This has allowed us to schedule the majority of the fall season league games with start times of 4:45PM on Saturdays – early enough to curl and then head out for some post-game food and libations : )

This last week was our first on the new sheet.  The ice was fast and smooth, although a little crooked.  This made for some tricky calls to deal with the negative ice, but with a smooth consistent surface we were able to get in plenty of good shots for some high scoring games (negative ice is tricky, but it is way better than frosty ice or dead spots).

We do have an extra sheet of ice this season – if you want to come out and learn how to curl, send us an e-mail and join us – we’ll set up an impromptu lesson for you on the open sheet.
